X-Women fall to Varsity Blues

Waterloo, ON – The StFX X-Women fell 63-44 to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues in their final game at the Naismith Classic tournament on Saturday evening in exhibition action.

The X-Women wrap up the four-team tournament with an 0-3 record while the Varsity Blues captured the tourney title with a 3-0 record. The York Lions (1-1) and host Waterloo Warriors (1-1) were playing later Saturday night.

The X-Women outpaced the Varsity Reds 13-10 in the opening quarter to start the game but a 15-9 second quarter in favor of Toronto gave them a 25-22 edge at halftime.

The Varsity Blues continued their strong play in the second half and the X-Women were unable to make up the difference. StFX turned the ball over 27 times compared to the Varsity Blues' nine.

Charlotte Collyer was the top scorer for Toronto with 16 points. She also hauled in 7 rebounds rebounding, as did teammate Deidre Edwards.

For the X-Women Jessica Miller scored 10 points off the bench and added 6 rebounds. Kim Kingsbury scored 8 points and had 5 rebounds, while Samantha Minicucci added 7 points and 5 rebounds for the StFX.

The X-Women will be back in exhibition action next weekend as they travel to Montreal for the McGill Redbird Classic tournament October 20-22. They will face McGill, Queen's and Toronto.
