(St. John's, NL) Memorial sealed their fourth consecutive win in as many games after Sundays' victory against the St. FX X-Women, 88-65. Rosie Stanoev led the Sea-Hawks with 23 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals, contributing on both ends of the floor. Jessica Miller of the X-Women led with 12 points off the bench. St. FX has yet to earn their first victory of the season; Memorial' winning streak pushes them to 4-2 this season.
The Sea-Hawks continue to find success attacking the basket and drawing fouls. Brooklyn Wright has continued her solid performance, leading Memorial at the end of the first half with 13 points. For X, the scoring has been distributed evenly across the team, the leading scorer at the half (Samantha Minicucci) with 6 points. Memorial's defense has kept StFX' shooting efficiency at a disappointing 32% from the field, and 20% from behind the arc.
A consistent spark for Memorial has been Cameron Longley, who recorded five rebounds, all of which were offensive rebounds leading to second-chance points for the Sea-Hawks. Longley finished with 8 total rebounds, providing a valuable contribution off the bench.
Memorial came out of half time scorching hot on offense, propelled by Rosie Stanoev' 4 straight three-pointers. The Sea-Hawks went on a 14-0 run, finding open shots with ease. For X, consistent scoring was difficult to create against a rugged Memorial defense, being held to a 35% from the field, and 32% from 3-point range.
StFX faces Cape Breton on November 25th, looking to secure their first win after an 0-6 start. Memorial looks to continue their success against UNB in another two-game series. The games will be available online at AUStv.ca
