Axewomen still seeking first week in 3 game stand at MUN

St. JOHN'S, NL - The Memorial Sea-Hawks defeated the Acadia Axewomen 3-0 in AUS women's volleyball action on Saturday night at The Field House.

Acadia was looking for revenge after dropping the previous nights contest by a 3-0 score and they came out with confidence and took an early 14-10 lead on Memorial.  The Sea-Hawks used a timeout to refocus and it seemed to do the trick, as they would battle back to tie the match at 21.  From there the Sea-Hawks were able to close out the first set by a score of 25-21.

The home side would carry that momentum into the second set and jumped out to a 19-6 advantage on the Axewomen.  Acadia gave their best effort to try and narrow that margin, but would come up short and drop the second set by a score of 25-12.

The Sea-Hawks were able to close out the victory by topping the Axewomen 25-21 in the final set.

Kier Fey registered a game-high 10 kills and 10.5 points, to help lead Memorial to victory. Maiya Westwood finished with 24 assists and 8 digs, while Sarah Dawe supplied 9 kills and 8 digs.

Daniella Trodel was the leader for the Axewomen on the night, finishing with 7 kills and 8 points in a losing effort.  Lauryn Renzella and Sarah Ross both finished with 6 kills and 7 points on the night.

These two teams are at it again tomorrow, when Acadia will be looking to avoid the weekend sweep. That game starts at 1:00 PM from The Field House and can be seen live on AUStv.ca.
