Box Score The Waterloo women's hockey team skated to a 4-0 shutout win over Windsor on Saturday afternoon and fifth year defender
Stephanie Digness (Aldergrove/) wrote a perfect script in her 100th career game netting a natural hat trick.
It was déjà vu for the legal studies student matching her first career game five years ago.
On October 5, 2013, in her first game with the black and gold, Digness netted a hat trick including the overtime winner in a 4-3 victory. Even more coincidental? It came against the same opponent Windsor.
Digness' goals came all in a very similar fashion, point shots that went through or off bodies. "All the credit to our forwards working hard down low and getting the puck back to the point," said Digness in an interview following the win.
"Our coaches were saying all game long, low to high is there and I was able to get pucks on net and luckily enough a few went in." Digness' second marker was a beauty shot that found the top corner to put the Warriors up 3-0.
Also scoring in the game was
Alison Hanson (Toronto/) who burried a perfect pass from
Alyssa Gee (Ajax/) after a strong power move broke her free for the 2-on-1.
Amy Barnard (Cambridge/) picked up the second helper on what was the games first goal.
Hanson (goal, assist) and Barnard (two assists) each finished with two points in the win.
Not to be lost in the mix was an oustanding performance by Warriors netminder
Stephanie Sluys (Clinton/) who earned her 13th career regular season shutout. Sluys stopped all 28 shots and was particularly good in the middle frame when the game was still locked at zero's and Windsor was pouring on the pressure.
The 3-1-0 Warriors will now look for their fourth straight win tomorrow as they face the York Lions in Toronto.
