X-Men hockey win fourth game in a row

(Moncton, N.B.) - On the strength of three unanswered goals within a ten minute span in the second period, the StFX X-Men (8-1-2), #7 in the CIS, skated to a 4-1 win over the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus (#10, 6-4-1) in AUS hockey action Saturday night at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, the home team jumped to a 1-0 lead on a power play goal from Robbie Graham (Richibuctou, NB). Pierre Durepos (Shediac, NB) and Allain Saulnier (Cap-Pele, NB) assisted, at 6:01.

Less than three minutes later, at 8:56, the X-Men knotted the score, when Craig Duininck (St. Cloud, MN) tallied, on assists from Kristoff Kontos (Penetanguishene, ON) and Eric Locke (Toronto, ON).

At 16:23, StFX took its first lead when Locke scored, on assists from Kontos and Brent Turnbull (Stellarton, NS).

Nathan Pancel (Ottawa, ON) doubled the X-Men edge, on the power play, from Bronson Maschmeyer (Bruderheim, AB), at 18:12.

Holden Cook (Oshawa, ON) notched the lone goal of the third period, at 11:56, on assists from Jagger Dirk (Penticton, BC) and Zack MacQueen (Woodstock, NB).

Drew Owsley (Lethbridge, AB) made 22 saves for the win, while Adrien Lemay (Moncton, NB) turned aside 30 shots in the loss.

The Subway player of the game and first star was Kontos, while Locke and Graham were the second and third stars, respectively.

Moncton will return to action Friday, Nov. 20,, when they host the Acadia Axemen.

On the same night, StFX will host the CIS #1 ranked UNB Varsity Reds at the Keating Centre.

Puck drop for both match-ups is 7 p.m.
