Saint Mary’s sweeps UPEI with 86-64 basketball win Saturday night

(HALIFAX, NS)—The Saint Mary's Huskies took two weekend games over the UPEI Panthers with an 86-64 victory on Saturday night from the Homburg Centre in AUS men's basketball action.

SMU guard Nikita Kasongo led all scorers with 21 points on the night.

The Huskies continued their scoring pace with a 17-9 second quarter frame and took a 46-20 lead into the locker room at half.

Both teams put up 21 points each in the third quarter and Saint Mary's kept their 16-point cushion headed into the fourth quarter up 67-41.

The Panthers outscored SMU 23-19 down the stretch in the final frame and the Huskies held on for the 86-64 victory.

Milorad Sedlarevic (Jesenice, Slovenia) paced UPEI with 16 points while Stefan Vujisisc (Kragujevac, Serbia) finished with 11.

Kemar Alleyne (Scarborough, ON) and Osman Barrie (Ottawa, ON) each had 14 points for SMU while Kaleel Faiz (Toronto, ON) had 10 off the bench.

Saint Mary's improves to 2-0 while UPEI falls to 0-2 early in the AUS season.

Both teams return to action next weekend with UPEI traveling to 2-0 UNB Varsity Reds November 10th while SMU visits 0-2 Cape Breton University Capers November 10th-11th.

Tip-off for all games are 8 pm.
