Capers sweep Sea-Hawks in double header series

(ST. JOHN'S, N.L.) - The Cape Breton Capers defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks 61-45 on Monday afternoon in AUS women's basketball at the Field House. The victory was the second for the Capers in the double header series over the Sea-Hawks.

The game was tightly matched through the first half, with the Sea-Hawks and Capers within one point of each other at the end of the first and second quarters. Going into the half the scoreboard was 26-25 in favor of the home team.

Cape Breton stepped up their game in the third quarter, out-coring Memorial 17 to 12. Memorial saw a number of lost opportunities at the free throw line in the last quarter. The Sea-Hawks made only three of 14 attempts in a game won by 16 points.

Colleen Keane (Ajax, Ont.) had 14 points and 10 rebounds in the win, while Alison Keough provided another 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Jalynn Skeir (Halifax, N.S.) took the Subway player of the game honours with 11 points off the Cape Breton bench.

The Sea-Hawks were led by Megan Robinson (Waterloo, Ont.) with 13 points.

The Capers improve to 5-5 with the win while the Sea-Hawks fall to 3-5 on the season.

Memorial plays next in Charlottetown with two games against the UPEI Panthers on Jan. 17 and 18.

The Capers will host the Acadia Axewomen in a four-point game on Jan. 17.
