MHKY | Voyageurs Offensive Outburst Sinks Lakers

The Voyageurs Men's Hockey team played against the Nipissing Lakers in an action packed weekday game on Wednesday.

In the game that would count towards the 705 Challenge Cup, both the goal light and the penalty column held a lot of action. The game had a total of 9 goals and 70 penalty minutes that had both teams earning their shares.

The game started off with a Voyageurs offensive attack that had not been seen by all Vees fans far and wide until this game. Richard Therrien was first to light the lamp in this contest as he scored his third goal of the season and both Jacob Smith and Nicolas Dionne added an assist to their profile.

The Voyagers struck both first and second as Daniel Lepage recovered a wobbling puck from a missed Lakers power play pass. Lepage then went one on one, eventually picking a low blocker shot for his first 2018 season goal and putting the Vees up 2-0.

The level of chippy play picked up and both team fell into some penalty trouble which in return gave ample opportunities to both the Vees and the Lakers on the power play. The Lakers scored two goals on the night and both those goals came from power play opportunities. The Lakers Drake Lindsey and Erik Robichaud were credited with both of the Lakers goals and both being in the second period.

Just like the Lakers, the Vees potted two more goals in the second period as Cole Peck scored his first ever OUA goal with the help of Jacob Smith and Therrien. The second goal was scored by Smith who also had the help of Therrien who ended the night with two goals and three assists and Nicolas Dionne who ended the night with three assists.

The offensive Voyageurs barrage did not end until the third period did as the Voyageurs added another three goals against the Lakers in the third. Jacob Smith would be the first to pot his second goal of the night to go along with his two previous assists just 50 seconds into the period.

Xavier Couture, another Vees forward who was eager to get into the scoring column, potted the one and only empty net of the night in the last minutes of the third, but for one last strike Therrien scored a late power play goal on the Lakers Brent Moran with the help of Cole Peck and Nicolas Dionne for a 7-2 victory in favour of the Voyageurs.

The Voyageurs next play November 3rd as they visit the UOIT Ridgebacks in hopes to get on a bit of a run and string some wins together.
