Ridgebacks fall to Thunderwolves in final game of inaugural season

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Ontario Tech men's basketball team was unable to bounce back from an early 11-0 deficit on Friday night as they lost 91-70 to the Lakehead Thunderwolves in the final game of their inaugural season.

Graddy Kanku (Ottawa, Ont.) led the Ridgebacks offence with 22 points, while Ammar Hassan (London, Ont.) had his 13th double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds. The duo were the only Ridgebacks in double-digit scoring.

Meanwhile, Lakehead was led by Isaiah Traylor's 31 points, with three other Thunderwolves finishing in double-digits. Lock Lam had 17 with 15 rebounds for his team's only double-double of the night.

The loss ends the inaugural season for Ontario Tech with a 1-21 record for the Ridgebacks in OUA conference play. Their record doesn't show how close they were in a number of games, with three down the stretch in the second semester being losses of 10 points or less, showing the group is competitive against east and west OUA opponents.

The Ridgebacks will now have until the fall to add to their inaugural roster and prepare for the 2020-21 season, while the OUA basketball postseason gets underway next week.
Graddy Kanku (Ottawa, Ont.) led the Ridgebacks scoring with 388 points (20.4 PPG), 62 assists, 37 steals and 15 blocks.
Ammar Hassan led the team with 13 double-doubles and finished with 248 rebounds (11.3 RPG).
AJ Cummings led the team with 60 made three-pointers (39.5 per cent)
  Overall Record: 1-26
Conference Record: 1-21
