Tigers move on to AUS final

(Halifax, N.S.)—The Dalhousie Tigers women's volleyball team defeated the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus in three sets on Friday afternoon, (25-15, 25-18, 25-11) in the first of two semifinals from the Homburg Centre.

Kamploos, B.C. native Mieke DuMont paced all hitters with 12 kills for Dal - the tournament's top-seed - while teammates Courtney Baker (Bridgewater, N.S.) and Anna Dunn-Suen (Halifax, N.S.) finished with 10 kills apiece.

With the win, the U Sports No. 7th-ranked Tigers advance to Saturday's 2017 Subway AUS Women's Volleyball Championship at 7 p.m. versus the winner of the second semifinal between the second-seeded Saint Mary's Huskies and third-seeded Memorial University Sea-Hawks.

Moncton came in as the fourth-seed and Christelle Bertin (Beresford, N.B.) paced the Aigles Bleus with nine kills, 18 digs and 41 total attacks while Pascale Doiron (Caraquet, N.B.) finished with seven kills and 12 digs.

Dal took a 10-6 lead early midway thru the first-set before a 5-4 Tiger run saw Dal increase their lead to five, 15-10. The Tigers used another run, 10-5 to end the set 25-15.

Dal doubled up Moncton 12-6 in first-set kills.

The second-set saw both teams tied 4-4 early on as the Tigers would lead 15-10 halfway thru the set. Moncton clawed back with a 6-2 spurt and trailed Dal 17-16. The Tigers made short work of Moncton down the stretch, taking the set 25-18 with an 8-2 run.

Tied 5-5 in the third set, the Tigers used a 10-3 run to build a seven-point lead, 15-8 midway thru the set. Another 10-3 Dal run ended the set 25-11 as the Tigers took the match 3-0.

Dallhousie advances to Saturday's final and will play the winner of semifinal #2.
