TORONTO, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks men's soccer struggled to find their footing in a 2-0 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday afternoon in Toronto.
UOIT fell behind early, conceding the first goal of the game to second-year Blues striker Anthony Sousa in the 15th minute.
Pressure from the Varsity Blues continued throughout, but Ridgebacks third-year goalkeeper
Nicholas Miller (Oshawa, Ont.) was outstanding in net coming up with several spectacular efforts. Facing down Toronto breakaways, clearing long crosses, and dealing with a persistent attack, Miller finished the afternoon recording double-digit saves for just the second time in his OUA career. Miller registered 11 on the afternoon, coming one save shy of his career-high which he recorded in the Ridgebacks' season opener last season on August 26, 2017.
The Varsity Blues added the insurance marker early in the second half courtesy fourth-year striker Jae Jin Lee.
The Ridgebacks will look for immediate redemption as they welcome U of T to the newly-turfed Vaso's Field this Wednesday, Aug. 29. Kick off is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
Overall Record: 0-5-0 (W-L-D)
