BRANDON, MB - It took longer than they originally hoped, but the Brandon Bobcats picked up their first regular season win at home in their brand-new facility over the visiting UNBC TImberwolves 61-54.
It was a back and forth game that saw 10 lead changes, but fourth-year forward Jordan Reaves iced it with a turn-around jumper with 34 seconds left. Reaves finished the contest with a double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) as did second-year guard Ilarion Bonhomme (13 points, 10 rebounds).
UNBC was led by Francis Rowe's game-high 19 points, while Navjot Bains recorded a double-double (10 points, 13 rebounds).
The Bobcats will travel to the west coast next weekend to play a swing trip against the UBC Thunderbirds Friday and Victoria Vikes Saturday, while the Timberwolves will welcome the Winnipeg Wesmen Friday and Manitoba Bisons Saturday.

ABBOTSFORD, BC - The #6 Alberta Golden Bears defeated the #4 Fraser Valley Cascades 91-81 at the Envision Athletic Centre. The Golden Bears improve their Prairie Division record to 10-2, while UFV falls to 7-5 in the Pacific Division of Canada West.
Sam Freeman led all scorers with a 27-point performance and Kevon Parchment added 16 for the Cascades.
The Golden Bears were paced by Ken Otieno, with 24 points and nine rebounds. Jordan Baker chipped in with 17 points, nine rebounds.
Fraser Valley goes on the road to face Calgary and Lethbridge next weekend and Alberta sees Thompson Rivers and UBC Okanagan visit Edmonton.

WINNIPEG - The #2 UBC Thunderbirds handed the Winnipeg Wesmen their first regular season loss on home court with a thrilling 96-93 overtime victory on Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre.
UBC with the victory improves their record to 10-2. Winnipeg, entered the contest with a perfect 7-0 home record sees their overall record fall to 9-4.
Brylle Kamen led the way for UBC scoring a team high 26 points and collecting 13 rebounds. Doug Plumb added 17 while O'Brian Wallace was next with 14.
Winnipeg was led by Steven Wesley's game-high 29 points. Travis Krahn and Andrew Cunningham added 14 each. Cunningham also dished out nine assists. Dominique Brown and Benny Iko each scored 10.
UBC returns home to face Brandon and Regina next weekend. Winnipeg will be on the road against UNBC on Thursday and Mount Royal on Saturday.

LANGLEY, BC – In a tightly-contested match from start to finish, the Saskatchewan Huskies pulled out a 92-85 win over the Trinity Western Spartans on Saturday at the Langley Events Centre.
After an impressive third quarter in which Saskatchewan (8-4) outscored TWU (4-8) 27-19 and opened a seven-point lead, the Huskies never trailed the rest of the way.
The Huskies were led by Stephon Lamar, who put 30 points and added six assists, and Andrew Henry, who was deadly from thee-point range, going six-for-eight for all of his 18 points.
For TWU, Mark Perrin had a team-high 22 points while Justin Bakuteka added 14. Tonner Jackson had a career-high 15 rebounds to go with four points.
The Spartans are on the road next weekend as they will travel to play Lethbridge Jan. 18 and Calgary Jan. 19. The Huskies will return home to host UBC Okanagan Jan. 18 and Thompson Rivers Jan. 19.

REGINA – Frank Brown’s second-half outburst helped propel the Regina Cougars to a 78-72 win over Mount Royal on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
Brown scored 10 points in the third quarter, then accounted for 14 of Regina’s 23 points in the fourth as the Cougars went on an 11-4 run. The win for the Cougars – their second in a row and fourth in their last five games – improves the U of R’s Canada West record to 5-7 on the season.
Mount Royal’s loss overshadowed an impressive performance from third-year guard Awet Abraha, who piled up a game-high 33 points to set a team record for most points in a single game in the school’s brief history at the CIS level.
Regina's Connor Burns scored 16 points fand added six rebounds.
Mount Royal will host Manitoba and Winnipeg next weekend in Calgary, while the Cougars will head to the West Coast for games against Victoria and UBC.

KAMLOPOPS, BC — The Thompson Rivers WolfPack are starting to make some noise in the Pacific Division as they raised their record to 6-7 with an 85-81 win over Calgary at the TRU Gym on Saturday (Jan 12). The Dinos fall to 5-7.
The WolfPack were led by Kevin Pribilsky's 20 points. Brett Rouault had 15 points. Calgary was led by Jarred Ogunbemi-Jackson, who had 24 points. Josh Owen-Thomas had 14 points.
The WolfPack hit the road for games next weekend (Jan 18-19) at Alberta and Saskatchewan. Calgary hosts Fraser valley and Thompson rivers next weekend.

WINNIPEG - Yigit Ozsayiner hit a three point shot from the left arc at the buzzer to give the Manitoba Bisons an 82-79 victory over the Victoria Vikes on Saturday at the Investors Group Athletic Centre.
Victoria (7-5) erased an 18-point fourth quarter deficit and tied the game with five seconds left on a Terrell Evans free throw. However, Evans’ second attempt from the stripe rimmed out and Ozsayiner got a look with no time remaining, sinking the shot and sending the home crowd into a loud celebration.
Ozsayiner had 22 points and six rebounds for Manitoba, who improved to 8-5 in conference play. Bisons guard Stephan Walton led all scorers with 24 points, despite playing through what Schepp described as a stomach flu in the second half.
Michael Acheampong led the Vikes with 17 points. Evans added 15 points and seven boards for Victoria, who saw their conference road record drop to 2-4.
Both teams return to action next weekend. Manitoba goes on the road and heads out west for games against Mount Royal (Jan. 17) and the UNBC Timberwolves (Jan. 19). Meanwhile, Victoria goes home to the McKinnon Gym for a pair of games, where they hope to improve on their 5-1 home record.

Pronghorns-Heat Stats

KELOWNA, BC - Despite late game efforts by the likes of Landry Ndayitwayeko and Anwar Faza, the Heat couldn’t keep up to a scorching hot Lethbridge team, ultimately falling to the Pronghorns 81-74 in Canada West action at UBC Okanagan Saturday night.
The Pronghorns’ Logan Reiter was an uncontrollable monster all game long, finishing with a game-high 29 points on 10-14 shooting, including 7-8 from beyond the arc. Derek Valdmer poured in a double-double, recording 16 points and 16 rebounds for the night.
Dave Mackay finished with 13 points and six rebounds for the Heat. Yassine Ghomari led the Heat, with 17 points and dished out a game-high six assists.
The Heat are now 2-11 for the season, while the Horns improve to 6-6 after capturing their first road win of the season. Next weekend the Heat will travel to Saskatchewan to play the Huskies on Friday night, and the Horns will be back at home versus the Trinity Western Spartans.
