Mustangs edge Lancers in a shoot-out

Box Score The Lancer women's hockey team dropped a hard fought battle to the Western Mustangs on Saturday afternoon in London. The Lancers fell 2-1 to the hosts in a shoot-out for their first loss of the season.

Windsor is now 2-0-1 on the season, while the Mustangs improved to the same 2-0-1 record.

The Mustangs put up nine shots against Lancer goaltender Marissa Kozovski in the first period, but it was the Blue & Gold that struck first. Candace Kourounis put the puck past Western netminder Kelly Campbell to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Despite the lead heading into the break that would be the lone goal the Lancers would score in the match. The Mustangs Kendra Broad tied the game just five and a half minutes into the second which kept the score deadlocked throughout the remainder of regulation.

The Lancers continued to battle hard in the five minute overtime period and they held a strong offensive attack that pressured the Mustangs in their end of the ice. Both the Lancers and the Mustangs had chances to take home the win but neither team could capitalize on their opportunities sending the match into a shootout.

Windsor is on the road again next weekend when they travel to play the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday October 25th and the Nipissing Lakers on Sunday October 26th.
