Rams slay Excalibur in Peterborough

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - A couple of second half goals by captain Adam Hemati (Vaughan, Ont.) powered the Ryerson Rams to a 4-1 victory against the Trent Excalibur Wednesday night at Justin Chiu Stadium.

BOXSCORE

The win keeps the Rams' perfect season alive as they improve to 9-0 and stay atop the OUA East division. Meanwhile, Trent falls to 1-7-2 and remain in seventh place with five points.

Freshman fullback Andrew Dias (Toronto) got Ryerson's offence rolling in the 21st minute. His first career OUA tally, assisted by Luka Lee (Toronto), made it 1-0 for the Rams. Lee doubled that advantage just before half when he fired the ball past the Excalibur goalkeeper David Ellis in the 40th minute. Misel Klisara (Mississauga, Ont.) picked up the helper on the fifth-year's fourth of the year.

With a 2-0 lead at the break, Hemati found the back of the net in the 55th and 86th minute to put the game away. His fourth and fifth of the season made it a four goal spread.

Despite the score, Trent refused to roll over and were rewarded for their gutsy effort. Joshua Burmeister disrupted Ali Ghazanfari's (Stouffville, Ont.) clean sheet moments before the final whistle. The goal was Burmeister's second of the season and completed the game's scoring.

Ryerson's Ghazanfari finished with two saves for the victory in net while Ellis allowed four goals on ten shots.

The Rams will look to make it ten straight wins when they travel to Oshawa Thursday night. They'll hit the pitch against the sixth-place UOIT Ridgebacks (3-5-1) at 8:15 p.m. Following that matchup, the Rams return home for the first time in nearly a month. Kickoff against the Laurentian Voyageurs (4-4) on Sunday is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Downsview Park.

NOTES: Trent's goal was only the second Ryerson has surrendered this season and Ghazanfari's first. The only other ball to get past the Rams' goalkeeping duo of Ghazanfari and Praveen Ahilan (Unionville, Ont.) came off a penalty kick against the Carleton Ravens on September 11th… Following Wednesday night's action, Ryerson's Jamie Baker (Aurora, Ont.) and Raheem Rose (Toronto) currently sit in a four-way tie for second in OUA scoring with six goals. Laurier's Niklas Bauer sits atop the leaderboard with nine after registering a hat trick in an 8-1 shellacking of the Waterloo Warriors… The Rams' 31 goals for through nine games puts them first in the CIS in that category while their 0.23 GAA is third-best.
