Sea-Hawks earn sweep over Huskies

FINAL SCORE Sea-Hawks 82 Huskies 73

The Sea-Hawks were once again able to outlast the Huskies 4th quarter push in today's victory. The losses this weekend, combined with the UNB trouncing of Saint FX drop the Huskies to second in the AUS for the first time this season. The win puts Memorial all alone in fourth place, and move their record back to the .500 mark.

This one was a track meet from the start, both teams shooting over 45 percent in the first half. This was somewhat surprising, given SMU's reputation as a stout defensive team. They'd been holding teams, on average, to 55 points per game but this game was anything but a defensive clinic.

For Memorial, it was the Brooklyn Wright show on Sunday afternoon. She poured in 27 points while shooting a sublime 4 of 8 from 3-point range, and knocking down 9 of her 10 free throws. Shanieka Wood was once again the standout for SMU, recording a double-double in the losing effort.

Perhaps the key to victory today was the work the Sea-Hawks put in on the glass. They finished with a 39-32 edge on the glass, something that coach Mark English stressed in advance of the weekend's games. That extra work put the Sea-Hawks in position to win in this absolute shootout of a game.

SMU will look to right the ship against Acadia next weekend, while Memorial is off to UNB for a two game set. As always, catch the games live on AUStv.ca.
