Oddy leads X-Women to 7-1 win over Tigers

(Halifax, NS) The StFX X-Women topped the Dalhousie Tigers 7-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Civic Centre. The X-Women were led by Daley Oddy who score a hat trick and was named the Subway Player of the Game.

The X-Women wasted no time getting on the board scoring in the opening minutes of the first period. Jenna Downey made a beautiful stretch pass to send Oddy on a breakaway who made no mistake beating Dalhousie goalie Jeanne Morin.

Courtney Sheedy countered quickly for the Tigers scoring just three minutes after the X-Women goal. Elizabeth MacArthur started the play after winning a battle against an X-Women defensemen in the Tigers end. MacArthur's hard work sprung Dalhousie on a 2-on-1where Sheedy had an open cage to shoot on after a big rebound.

The X-Women regained the lead half way through the first on the power play. Oddy beat Morin again after a couple whacks at the puck in front of the net.

StFX streched the lead to two off a point shot from Emma Winters that was deflected multiple times on the way in.

Morin made some remarkable saves late in the first period period keeping the deficit at two after 20 minutes of play.

Dalhousie came out strong for the first five minutes of the 2nd period controlling play but Sarah Bujold capitalized on a bad line change by the Tigers scoring on a breakaway, making it 4-1 X-Women.

Maggie Beaton was called for hooking at 6:24. On the ensuing X-Women power play Alexa Normore wired a slap shot top corner giving StFX a commanding 5-1 lead halfway through the game.

Daley Oddy and Lisa Downey would both add another to make it 7-1 after the 2nd period.

Both teams were held scoreless in the third period.

The Tigers (3-6) will have to have a short memory as they play Sunday evening against Mount Allison (2-6-1) at 6:30pm in the Halifax Forum.

StFX (8-1) has almost been unbeatable this season winning eight straight games. They play the AUS second place team Moncton (7-2) at home Sunday afternoon.
