WolfPack Men’s Basketball Sweeps Opening Weekend Of 2014-15 Season

Kamloops, BC — They were not the prettiest of victories, but the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s basketball team finds themselves unbeaten after their opening weekend of the 2014-15 Canada West season.

The WolfPack swept the visiting University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves on Saturday (November 8), 85-81.

“I think defensively we got lucky,” said WolfPack head coach Scott Clark. “You shoot 58 percent in the second half and you get away with a win.  We were very fortunate.  There were a couple of stretches where we were okay defensively. We have to get a lot better defensively. You are putting way too much pressure on the offense. We have to get better.”

The Timberwolves were up by one (26-25) after the opening quarter but the ‘Pack outscored UNBC 24-16 in the second to hold a 49-42 lead at the half.  UNBC came out strong in the third quarter and outgunned TRU 28-16.

Tallon Milne (fifth year, forward, Vanderhoof, BC) was named the TRU Bookstore/McDonalds Leader of the Pack Player of the Game.  He had 20 points and seven rebounds.

Josh Wolfram (fourth year, forward, Kamloops, BC) had his second double-double of the season.  He had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Victor Aguero (third year, guard, Vancouver, WA) contributed 16 points while Brett Rouault (fifth year, guard, Vernon, BC) and Reese Pribilsky (fourth year, guard, Victoria, BC) each had 12 in a winning cause.

UNBC was led by Devin McMurtry (fifth year, forward, Surrey, BC) who had 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Franco Kouagnia (fifth year, forward, Yaounde, CMR) had 17 points. Billy Cheng (fourth year, guard, Richmond, BC) contributed 13 points while Rhys Elliot (third year, guard, Victoria, BC) chipped in with 12.

Both teams are on the road next weekend (November 14-15) in the Canada West.  UNBC will travel to Abbotsford to meet the University of Fraser Valley Cascades.  The WolfPack move into Edmonton, Alberta to face the MacEwan Griffins.

Next home action for TRU will be November 21st when they entertain UFV.  Tip off is 8 pm at the Tournament Capital Centre.
