Tigers build up early lead and defeat X-Men

Antigonish, NS – The Dalhousie Tigers built up an early lead in the game and never looked back as they defeated the StFX X-Men 95-78 on the newly installed Coach K Court at the StFX Oland Centre. 

The Tigers opened the game with a 20-5 advantage, led by the early three-point sharp shooting of Alex Carson (Lower Sackville, NS) who drained four trays in the opening quarter. The X-Men clawed their way back and were down 22-15 after 15 minutes of play. 

The teams went head-to-head in the second quarter as the Tigers held a slight 24-23 scoring advantage to build up a 46-38 lead at half-time. 

The third quarter was again evenly played at 21 points apiece with the visitors holding a 67-59 lead heading into the final stanza. The X-Men were unable to mount a comeback as the defending AUS champion Tigers took home the 95-78 victory. 

Subway player of the game Sven Stammberger (Halifax, NS) kept up his torrid scoring pace to start the AUS season, netting 36 points on the night and hauling in an impressive 16 rebounds for the Tigers. Carson scored 29 points, 24 of which came from three-point range.  

Jordan Aquino-Serjue (Montreal, QC) scored nine and dished nine assists along with a trio of steals. 

X-Men starters Tristen Ross (Truro NS) and Kevin Bercy (Kanata, ON) each scored 14 points while Julius Antoine (Vaughan, ON) added 12. Bercy and Davonte Provo (East Preston, NS) were the top rebounders with five apiece. 

The X-Men will next see action on Saturday, November 11th when they host the Acadia Axemen in an 8pm game at StFX Oland Stadium. 

The Tigers travel to Memorial for a pair of weekend games on Saturday and Sunday.
