MHKY | Mustangs Gallop Past Voyageurs

MHKY | Mustangs Gallop Past Voyageurs
The Laurentian Voyageurs played the Western Mustangs this Friday evening in a well heated and well matched game that provided excitement to all that watched.

The game started off in a slow fashion as it took both teams a few minutes to get into the groove. Although neither team was letting down their guard, the Voyageurs showcased a fantastic first period performance that had not been seen since the first game. The first period held no scoring action but both the Mustangs and Voyageurs took turns in the box. Laurentian came out on top of the shoots on net chart at 10 compared to Western's 6.

The second period held most of the scoring action from both teams as Laurentian managed to beat Luke Peresinni courtesy of Richard Therrian snipe from the top of the circle at 8:48. Unfortunately the Mustangs came out triumphant in the scoring column as they scored two goals on Mackenzie Savard. The Mustangs goals came from both Trevor Warnaar and Jonathan Laser at 1:30 and 7:08 respectively.

This would give the Mustangs a 2-1 lead after an action packed first and second period sending the Vees into the third knowing they are one goal behind.

Unfortunately, after a long and strenuous third period. the Vees were unable to add another goal for the tie. The Mustangs added an empty net goal to give them the lead by two and eventually winning the game.

The Voyageurs look to get their first regular season win tomorrow, Saturday, October 20th, against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
