Henman scores late to lead Tommies over Tigers 4-3

The Tigers couldn't capture the W in their home opener Sunday afternoon at the Halifax Forum as Lauren Henman scored late in the third period to give the Tommies a 4-3 lead that they'd hold on for the win.

Elizabeth MacArthur opened the scoring for the Tigers just minutes into the first period and the Tigers would keep the 1-0 lead going into the first intermission. The Tommies pounced on the Tigers early in the second period when Teah Anderson tied the game at one on the powerplay. Myfanwy Thomson scored seven minutes later to give the Tommies their first lead of the game and the Tommies led 2-1 heading into the final frame.

Anderson added another one early in the third period, but the Tigers answered with two straight powerplay goals when MacArthur notched her second of the game and Maggie Beaton scored off a feed from Joleen MacInnis and the game was tied at three with just eight minute left. The Tigers hopes of a win in their home opener were dashed when Laurne Henman found the back of the net with five minutes left and the Tommies went on to win 4-3.

Abby Clarke made 24 saves in the win for the Tommies, while Mati Barrett had 26 saves in the loss for the Tigers.

The Tigers will be back on the ice when they take on the Saint Mary's Huskies on Wednesday at 7:00pm, while the Tommies host the University of Moncton on Saturday in an afternoon affair with puck drop at 2:00pm.
