Strong second half leads Gaels over X-Women

Montreal, QC – The StFX X-Women were defeated 74-57 by the Queen's Gaels in their second game of the McGill RedBird Classic in U SPORTS exhibition action Saturday afternoon.

It was a tale of two halves as the X-Women held leads of 17-15 after the first quarter and 34-31 at halftime but the Gaels clawed back in the second half. They outscored the X-Women in the third quarter and led 47-44 after 30 minutes. The fourth quarter saw the OUA squad outpace the X-Women 27-13 en route to the win.

StFX had 27 turnovers in the game compared the Gaels 16.

The X-Women played 13 in the game and had strong performances off the bench from Sammie Amoh (10 points) and Samantha Minicucci (8 points, 5 rebounds). Jessica Miller scored 8 points and had 3 boards while Katie MacIntosh played well defensively with 6 rebounds.

Leading the Gaels was Veronica Laverge with 11 points and 8 rebounds, while Marianne Alarie scored 10.

Queen's (2-0) will move on the face McGill (2-0) on Sunday for the tournament title. The X-Women (0-2) and Toronto (0-2) will battle for third place Sunday at 10:00 am EST.
