MHKY | Voyageurs Bludgeoned by Gaels

On Friday night, the Voyageurs men's hockey team was run over by the visiting Queen's Gaels by a score of 8-2.

Queen's got on the board at 8:34 of the first period when Darcy Greenaway found himself on a partial break away and was able to slip the puck passed the glove of Gunner Rivers. Greenaway's goal was the only goal of the period as Queen's outshot Laurentian 8-3 in the opening 20 minutes.

The second period was a flurry of action. Queen's jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when Slater Doggett scored on the powerplay at 32 seconds of the second period.

The Vees answered, however, as Richard Therrien scored his team leading fifth goal of the season and bringing Laurentian within one. Jordan Chard picked up the lone assist.

Doggett scored his second of the period shortly after, restoring the Gaels' two-goal advantage at 7:45 of the second.

Queen's would add two more before the second period ended by way of Damian Bourne at 15:09 and Greenaway with his second of the game at 18:46. The two late goals sent both teams into the second intermission with the Voyageurs trailing 5-1.

The Gaels continued their early period scoring as Ryan Bloom increased Queen's lead to 6-1.

The Voyageurs powerplay started to click on their fifth opportunity of the evening as Xavier Couture scored his fourth of the season at 9:35 on a play assisted by Nicolas Dionne and Dylan Fitze

That would be as close as the Voyageurs would get to the Gaels on the evening, who added two more in the final three minutes of play, for a final score of 8-2. The Voyageurs were outshot 27-18 in Friday's contest.

The Voyageurs will look to shake off the loss as they turn around and host UOIT on Saturday night and will be looking to secure their third win of the season.
