X-Women shutout Huskies 3-0

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Jenna Downey (Stratford, Ont.) got a goal and an assist as the St. Francis Xavier X-Women defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Alumni Arena.

Downey's marker, on the power play at 6:31 of the first period, was the first of three consecutive goals to start the game for the X-Women on their way to victory. Downey's performance earned her Subway player of the game honours.

After Downey's goal gave the X-Women a 1-0 lead, Daley Oddy (Cranbrooke, B.C.), who also got an assist, scored at 12:02 to give the X-Women a 2-0 lead.

Sarah Bujold (Riverview, NB.). increased the lead on the power play at 14:06 to make the score 3-0 after the first period.

Neither team was able to put on a goal on the board in the second or third periods of play.

Other X-Women assists in the game went to Alex Normore (Bedford, N.S.) and Kira Dube (Calgary, Alta.).

On the Saint Mary's side, Sarah Douglas (Whitby, Ont.) led the team with three shots on goal.

The X-Women outshot the Huskies 23-19. Sojung Shin (Seoul, South Korea) made 19 saves to get the shutout for the X-Women. Rebecca Weagle (Lunenburg, N.S.) made 20 saves in net for the Huskies.

The X-Women are on the ice next on Nov. 28 against the UPEI Panthers at 7 p.m. in Charlottetown. The Huskies play the Moncton Aigles Bleues at the same time in Moncton.
