Tommies Down Mounties 5-1 in Sackville

The St. Thomas University Tommies downed the Mount Allison Mounties 5-1 in AUS women's hockey action Sunday afternoon in Sackville.

The Tommies came out strong and were rewarded with a goal from Stephanie Ford, who finished a set up from Myfanwy Thomson

After outshooting the Mounties 19-4 in the opening frame, the Tommies carried their momentum into the second with a power play marker from Jessie McCann. Five minutes later, Thomson roofed the puck over Mounties netminder Keri Martin to put the Tommies up 3-0.

The Mounties got one back before the end of the frame as MacKenzie Lalonde converted on the power play to cut the Tommies lead to 3-1.

Kelty Apperson netted two goals in the third--the first came shorthanded off a nice outlet pass from Teah Anderson and the second was set up by Emily Oleksuk, who found Apperson open in the slot.

The Tommies outshot the Mounties 50-17 in the game.

Abby Clarke picked up the win in net.

The Tommies are back in action Wednesday when they face the U de M Aigles Bleues in Moncton. Game time is 7:00 pm.
