Sarah Rettinger (Kitchener/) waited the perfect time for her first career U SPORTS goal, netting the game winner in a 2-1 win over Nipissing on Sunday afternoon at the CIF Arena.
It was the final game before the Christmas break and the Warriors picked up a crucial three points in the OUA standings. The win propelled the Warriors into a tie for fifth with the Lakers with their 22 points (6-2-3-0).
Rettinger picked off the pass at the Lakers blue line and went in and snapped it past a helpless Jacqueline Rochefort. The game winning tally came at 12:31 of the third frame.
Rachel Marriott (Waterloo/) got the other Warriors goal at 11:20 of the first on a power play, her second of the season.
Stephanie Digness (Aldergrove/) and
Brooklyn Sarnovsky (Courtice) picked up the helpers on Marriott's second of the year.
In between the pipes,
Stephanie Sluys (Clinton/) was nearly perfect turning aside 34 of 35 shots faced to bump up her impressive save percentage to .952, the fifth best in the OUA. Sluys sits fourth in the OUA with an impressive 1.28 Goals Against Average.
Waterloo will now enjoy the Christmas break riding a two game win streak before they get back into action in tne New Year on Thursday, January 4 in London against Western.
