CALGARY – Making his first appearance on the floor since Nov. 12, point guard Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson arrived just in time for the Calgary Dinos, recording a double-double as Calgary upended #4 Saskatchewan 83-79 on Friday night in the Jack Simpson Gym.

Ogungbemi-Jackson, the second-year Winnipegger, played with a well-bandaged left thumb, but still managed to lead all players with 21 points on the night, adding a team-high 11 rebounds, five steals, and three assists as Calgary improved to 4-7 on the season while handing the Huskies their fourth loss of the campaign. Saskatchewan heads into Saturday’s rematch at 6-4.

Tyler Fidler picked up 19 points and seven rebounds in a solid outing for Calgary, while Boris Bakovic scored 17 in his third game back from a knee injury.

Fifth-year forward Michael Lieffers who was Saskatchewan’s best player on the night. He shot 8-of-13 from the field for 18 points, collecting 15 rebounds. The starting five scored all but six of the Huskies’ 79 points on the night, and all were in double-digits: Lomoru, Lieffers, Barrett (13), Matthew Forbes (13), and Duncan Jones (10).

Tip-off for the rematch goes at 8:00 p.m. MT in the Jack, with the game broadcast live on www.canadawest.tv.

Cougars-Bisons Stats

WINNIPEG - You want points? You got it. Fans who bought and paid for tickets to Friday's match-up between the second-place Manitoba Bisons and Regina Cougars certainly got their money's worth as the home side Bisons put on a scoring clinic in a record-setting 116-89 win at the Investors Group Athletic Centre.

With the win, the Bisons now boast a five-game win streak amongst teams in its conference.

It is the most points scored by a team in Canada West this season. Kevin oliver of the Bisons led all scorers, with 23 points, while Stephan Walton (17), Xavier Smith (14) were next-highest for the home side. Connor Burns had 17 for the Cougars to go with 10 boards, with Sterling Nostedt putting back 15 points.

Manitoba will look to make it six in a row against conference opponents on Saturday as it meets Regina again at 8:00 p.m.

EDMONTON - Despite a never-say-die attitude by the visiting Lethbridge Pronghorns, the No.8 Alberta Golden Bears claimed a 91-83 victory in an offensive affair, Friday night at the Saville Community Sport Centre.

Third-year guard and Alberta’s rebound specialist Jordan Baker earned a double-double on the evening, notching a game-high 25 points to go with 10 boards. Four other Golden Bears cracked the 10-point barrier, Daniel Ferguson (15), Lyndon Taylor (14), Rob Dewar (13), and Matthew Cardoza (10) all trying to wear out the lights on the scoreboard.

A couple of Pronghorns tried to do the same, as Dominyc Coward (earning his own double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds) and Daryl Cooper (21 points) both put in capital efforts that fell just a bit short in Alberta’s capital city.

The 7-4 Golden Bears, currently tied for first place in the Prairie division of Canada West, and the 5-6 Pronghorns face off in the second game of their two-game series on Saturday at the Saville Community Sport Centre. Tip-off goes at 8 p.m.

ABBOTSFORD, BC - In Victoria, the UFV Cascades defeated the Victoria Vikes 79-70 at McKinnon Gym. The #10 Cascades improve to 7-4 with this key victory over the Vikes, ranked sixth in CIS. The Cascades ranked 10th in Canada hand Victoria their second loss of the year.  They are now 9-2. 

UFV was led by Grewal's 18-point performance and six rebounds. Friesen added 17 points, three boards and two assists. Sam Freeman scored 15 points.

For Victoria, it was Mike Berg with 19 points and Michael Acheampong adding 17. 

The Cascades play again on Saturday at McKinnon Gym.

KAMLOOPS, BC - The Trinity Western Spartans slid by the UBC Okanagan Heat on Friday in a nail-biter, winning 83-77.

The Spartans added a third game to their winning streak, moving to 5-6 in Canada West. The Heat, led by guard Yassine Ghomari's game-high 33 points, fell to 207.

Three Spartans were in the double-digits - 6’8” Kyle Coston, reigning Canada West Player of the Week, scored 20 points, with Calvin Westbrook and Sean Peter adding 19 apiece.

Simon Pelland scored 23 points in a losing cause.

Bobcats-Wesmen Stats

WINNIPEG - Winnipeg needed a win and on this night they got one. The Wesmen won a thrilling 66-61 decision over the Brandon University Bobcats Friday evening at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg.

The Wesmen put an end to a six-game regular season win-less streak and improved their record to 3-9. Brandon with the loss falls to 5-7.

Mark McNee led Winnipeg with 17 points and four steals. Andrew Cunningham finished with a double-double 12 points and a game high 14 rebounds. Dominique Brown and Travis Krahn each had 11 points.

The Bobcats were led by Donovan Gayle's game high 20 points. Michael Smith added 16. Jordan Reaves and Ali Mounir led the team in rebounds with 10 each.

Winnipeg will welcome Victoria next Friday and UBC on Saturday. Brandon will play Trinity Western and Fraser Valley.

Wesmen-Bobcats Stats

BRANDON, MB - The Brandon Bobcats and Winnipeg Wesmen battled back and forth in a see-saw affair that saw the Bobcats come away with a 70-56 win. There wee nine lead changes, but the Bobcats ran away with it thanks to a dominant third quarter in which they out-score the Wesmen 21-10.
 
Two Bobcats finished with double-doubles and one finished one rebound shy of a double-double. Donovan Gayle led the way for the Bobcats with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Ali Mounir-Benabdelhak put up 14 points and 12 rebounds. Jordan Reaves finished 11 points and nine boards.
 
Mark McNee had a game-high 17 points for the Wesmen, while Dominique Brown picked up a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
 
With the win the Bobcats improve to 5-6 while the Wesmen fall to 2-8. The two teams will meet again Friday night in the second half of the weekend series in Winnipeg.
