MONTREAL --
Felix Menard-Briere of Ste. Agathe, Que., kicked three field-goals as the No.2-ranked Montreal Carabins blanked McGill 13-0 in their annual Homecoming game at Percival Molson Stadium, Saturday, to close out the RSEQ regular season football schedule.
The result, combined with Laval's 14-1 win at Sherbrooke and Concordia's 39-6 victory at Bishop's, left two teams tied for first at 7-1 and two teams tied for the last playoff spot at 4-4. Once the tie-breakers were factored in, the Carabins finished first and will host fourth-place McGill in one semifinal next week. The other semi has second-place Laval hosting third-place Concordia. Both games are slated for Nov. 5 at 2 p.m.
It will be McGill's first post-season participation since 2012.
The Carabins led 6-0 after the opening quarter on field-goals from distances of 29 and 19-yards.Menard-Briere added a 24-yarder to give his side a 9-0 advantage at halftime. They rounded out the scoring withg a pair of safeties in the third quarter.
Montreal generated 18 first-downs and 351 net yards, compared to McGill, which had 14 and 228, respectively.
