(Halifax, N.S.) – The Tigers hosted the Saint Mary's Huskies in their regular season home opener, winning 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-14) at Dalplex.

Things were close in the first set, with both teams trading points, until the Tigers went on a three-point run on the back of serving run from setter Courtney Baker (Bridgewater, NS). After trading points, the Tigers opened up a six-point lead to the technical timeout.

The Huskies looked to change the pace with huge blocks from Erin Smith (Moncton, NB) and Lindsay Donovan (London, ON) but were unable to build any momentum. The Tigers took the first set 25-16, with Mieke DuMont (Kamoops, BC) leading the way, recording seven kills.

There was a lot back and forth action again in the second set, with the Tigers once again leading at the technical time out 16-14. And just like in the first set, the Tigers continued to move away from the Huskies, taking the second set 25-18, despite a late Saint Mary's surge.

In the third and what would be final set, the Huskies suffered some un-forced errors and had a touch time handling the Tigers serves. Dalhousie was up 16-6 at the technical time out. The Tigers turned up the heat and cruised to a 25-14 win.

Subway Player of the Game honours went to the Tigers setter Courtney Baker who had 32 assists and 10 digs in the match. Mieke DuMont and Julie Moore (Halifax, NS) each had 12 kills for the Tigers, while Catherine Callaghan (Halifax, NS) had a match-high 12 digs.

Erin Smith led the way for the Huskies, recording a match-high 13 kills. She also had eight digs and three blocks.

With the win, the Tigers improve to 2-0 so far this season, while the Huskies fall to 1-1.

Both teams are back in action again on Sunday, November 5 when the Huskies host the Tigers at Saint Mary's. Game time is at 1:00pm.
