Mbolekwa leads Tigers in 2-0 win over Panthers

On paper, Saturday's matchup between the Dalhousie Tigers and the UPEI Panthers looked like it would be a tightly contested back and forth affair. The two sides did not disappoint, putting on a great display of soccer at Wickwire Field. The Tigers managed to score twice in the final 8 minutes of the game for a 2-0 victory.

Dalhousie keeper, Jason Ross stood tall making six saves en route to his fourth clean sheet of the season. Across the pitch Brett Strba stopped six of the eight shots fired his way. The game was held at a scoreless draw until Zach Mbolekwa scored in the 83rd minute off a free kick from James Nearing that found Mbolekwa's right foot in the box. Prior to the Mbolekwa tally, Cole MacMillan had a free kick of his own at the edge of the Tigers 18-yard box but was unable to capitalize for the Panthers.

Will Kafeero scored an insurance marker just 5 minutes later giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the 87' minute. Kafeero rush down the left side of the pitch beating the Panthers defensive line and slipped the ball past a charging Strba.

UPEI defiantly out-chanced the Tigers in the match but were unable to solve Ross.

The Tigers move into a tie for first place in the AUS standing with the Cape Breton Capers after securing four points this weekend. Dalhousie's (4-2-2) next action comes on October 16th when they host the Saint Mary's Huskies (1-3-3). The Panthers (3-3-1) are in action Sunday, October 4th against the Huskies.
