Ottawa, ON - The Gee-Gees women's rugby team wasn't phased when the U SPORTS No. 1 ranked StFX X-Women roared back to tie the score at 14-14 early in the second half. Instead, the Garnet and Grey went on a 19-0 run to capture a meaningful 33-19 exhibition victory in a rematch of the 2016 U SPORTS national final.

Five different players scored a try for No. 6 ranked Ottawa with Emma Sandström going four-for-five on converts. The Gee-Gees speed was a key factor, both in generating offence and averting would-be StFX scores.

Sam Lake scored two tries for the X-Women while Joanne Callow scored a single try and Danielle Franada kicked two conversions.

The Gee Gees held a 14-7 lead at halftime.

In an earlier game featuring the StFX and Gee Gee's 'B' teams, the X-Women came out on top with a 26-15 victory. Keeley MacCuish, Sophia Parker, Jade Fulton and Claudia Fulton all scored tries for StFX and Jacqui Salvatore kicked three conversions.

The X-Women will travel to Montreal on Saturday for another exhibition match against the No. 9 ranked Concordia Stingers. Kick-off is 2:00 pm EST.

Ottawa has two regular season games remaining and sit second in RSEQ standings with a 4-1 regular season record. The Gee-Gees take on Sherbrooke (2-3) on Monday afternoon at Matt Anthony Field.
