Huskies win 66-54 over Tigers

(Halifax, NS) - Jenny Lewis used her time wisely Wednesday night.

The fourth-year Halifax native had 23 points in 23 minutes for the USports No. 8-ranked Saint Mary's Huskies, as they defeated the Dal Tigers 66-54 in AUS women's basketball action.

Lewis only had two points in the opening frame which saw her Huskies lead 13-11 after ten minutes.  She then went to work in the second quarter, scoring 12 points on 3-4 shooting from three-point land.

The Huskies outscored Dal 25-12 in the quarter and led by 15 at half, 38-23.

The second half saw SMU outscore Dal 20-9 after 30 minutes and Dahousie outscoring the Huskies 22-8 in the final frame.

Diedre Alexander (Woodstock, NB) and Michele Tchiakoua (Yaounde, Cameroon) had 10 points apeiece in DAL's loss, who fall to 1-2 (2 points) in AUS play.

Karina May (Moncton, NB) had nine points for Dal off the bench while Robertha Charles (Montreal, Que.) and Shalyn Field (Halifax, NS) added eight points each.

Overall, Lewis went 6-7 from the three-point arc and had three assists for Saint Mary's, who improve to 3-0 (6 points).

Carlie Nugent (Richmond Hill, Ont.) had 11 points in 13 minutes for Saint Mary's while Kennisha-Shanice Luberisse (Montreal, Que.) and Jasmine Cain (Halifax, NS) had eight points each.

The Huskies returns to action Saturday night when Dalhousie hosts the back-end of their home-home series at 6 p.m.
