Rams improve to 10-0 with win over Ridgebacks

OSHAWA - The Ryerson Rams men's soccer team is now 10-0 following a 4-1 victory against the UOIT Ridgebacks Thursday night. Jamie Baker (Aurora, Ont.), Jackson Tooke (Toronto) Andrew Dias (Toronto) and Venizelos Koutsoulianos (Richmond Hill, Ont.) all found the back of the net for Ryerson.

BOXSCORE

The fact the Rams played the night before against the Trent Excalibur didn't seem to impact their ability to dominate the match in the early stages. In the fifth minute, Luka Lee (Toronto) filtered a perfect pass through the Ridgebacks' backline and onto the foot of Baker. He placed the ball past UOIT's keeper Nicholas Miller for his team-leading seventh goal and a 1-0 Ryerson lead.

Lee continued to be the offensive catalyst for the Rams. Moments after Baker's tally, Lee was tripped in the box and earned Ryerson a penalty kick. Tooke stepped up and put the ball between the pipes to double the Rams' advantage.

Later in the half, Andrew Dias got in on the fun. Regularly a fullback, Ryerson's head coach Filip Prostran put Dias on the left wing and the move paid off. Dias collected the ball following a save by Miller and put it between the pipes to make it 3-0 in the 31st minute.

In the second half the Rams continued to control the play. Yet, it was the Ridgebacks that were able to bulge the twine. A beautiful cross by UOIT's Erik Petrovic found the head of teammate Tristan Maenza in the 84th minute. He deflected it just under the crossbar to put the Ridgebacks on the board.

Two minutes later, Koutsoulianos scored to seal the win for the Rams.

The loss drops UOIT to 3-6-1. They remain in sixth-place in the OUA East division, five points up on the Trent Excalibur.

The game was Ryerson's sixth straight on the road. They'll finally return home Sunday for a matinee match against the Laurentian Voyageurs (4-4).

The two sides faced each other to begin their seasons on September 4th. The Rams took that game by a score of 1-0 on a first half goal by Lee. Kick off at Downsview Park is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

NOTES: The goal by Koutsoulianos was the first OUA marker of his career. Ryerson now has 11 different players that have found the back of the net at least once this season… Baker's tally bumps him into sole possession of second place on the OUA goal scoring leaderboard. Despite missing the last three games due to injury, Raheem Rose (Toronto) remains in a three-way tie for third with six.
