The 2015 portion of the Canada West women's basktball sasons tarted off on a great note for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack.

The WolfPack, who lead the Exporer Divison notched 100 points for the firs ttime in nearly four years--and for the second time in their CIS history on Friday night (Jan 9).

Playing at home, Thompson Rivers downed the visiting University of British Columbia Okanagan Heat 106-58. The game was played at the Warner Rentals Court at the Tournament Capital Centre.

Thompson Rivers has won their last six league games and seventh stragiht. Their league record is 9 and 1. The Heat fall to 3 and 6.

TRU hit 100 points only one other time: in 2011 against the Brandon University Bobcats.

"We shot the ball so well in the first half," said WolfPack head coach Scott Reeves. "When you shoot it that well it's hard for the other team to react.  It is very deflating when that happens. Give credit to UBCO, they showed a lot of character and a lot of heart to come back in the second half. They played us to a five point game in the second half."

The 'Pack were up 20-15 after the first quarter and held a commanding 60-17 advantage at the half. They shot 60 per cent from beyond the arc, 44 per cent inside it and had a success rate of 87.5 from the free throw line.

TRU had five players in double figures led by Taiysa Worsfold (fourth year, guard, Kamloops, BC) and Emma Piggin (first year, guard, Kamloops, BC).  Both had 17 points.  Piggin also had nine rebounds to be named the TRU Bookstore/McDonald's Leader of the Pack Player of the Game.

Reeves felt it was a team effort:  "It was a total group effort without question. Five kids in double digits is a fine effort. The 26 assists—anytime a basketball team can get 20 plus assists means that you are moving the ball. Everyone is touching it. You are getting the defense to shift and create some holes. It was a great team effort."

Michelle Bos (first year, guard, Surrey, BC) had her sixth double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds (10 on defense).

Kassie Colonna (third year, forward, Invermere, BC) had 14 points while Emily VIlac (first year, forward, Kamloops, BC) added 10.

"This is CIS," says Reeves when asked if his players looked at the scoreboard and started to get overconfident. "Teams here don't play to a scoreboard. Every coach wants their team to play to the highest level they are capable of. UBCO didn't quit because of the score and I didn't expect them to. We expect 100 per cent effort all of the time."

UBCO was led by Jessica Jarzdarehee (third year guard, Coquitlam, BC) who had 10 points. Shenelle Tamminen (second year, wing, Calgary, AB) and Claire Elliot (second year, guard, North Vancouver, BC) both added nine points.

The two teams will battle again at the Warner Rentals Court on Saturday.
