WHKY | Voyageurs Extend Win Streak to Four After 3-1 Win at Brock

WHKY | Voyageurs Extend Win Streak to Four After 3-1 Win at Brock

On Sunday afternoon, the Voyageurs women's hockey team extended their win streak to four games after beating the Brock Badgers, 3-1.

The now second seeded Voyageurs got off to a bit of a slow start as they were unable to muster any offense in the first period.

In the second period, the Voyageurs surrendered the first goal of the game after Melissa Hurrel scored for Brock. However, the Voyageurs responded immediately as Elissa Bertuzzi scored just under a minute-and-a-half after that. Both teams would head to the locker room tied at one a piece after Bertuzzi's tally.

The Voyageurs then struck quickly, putting the game away early in the third period. With 1:58 into the third and in the dying seconds of a powerplay, Taylor Philip scored to give the Vees the lead with the lone assist going to Ellery Veerman.

Less than a minute later, Sam Morell scored off a pass from Sara Habal, giving the Voyageurs a 3-1 lead. Laura Deller stopped all eight shots that came her way in the third period, and 22 of 23 on the afternoon.
After Sunday's win, the 4-1 Voyageurs are now tied for second in the OUA standings with 12 points. They are back on the road this weekend as they head to Waterloo to take on the Warriors Saturday afternoon at 2pm and then the Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday at 7:30pm.
