Gryphons drop Golden Hawks on the Road

WATERLOO, Ont. - The Guelph Gryphon men's basketball team looked to end a two game slide as they visited the Laurier Golden Hawks today.   Continuing a strong start to the new year was Dan McMarthy (Guelph, Ont.) and Zach Angus (Burlington, Ont.) who put up 27 and 26 points respectively to lead the Gryphons to a 94-88 victory.
 
The Gryphons rode a strong first half performance to the victory and move to 4-7 on the season while the Hawks drop to 3-8. 

Leading the Golden Hawks was Max Allin scoring a career high and record-breaking 43 points in the loss for the Hawks. 

Guelph came out on fire in the first quarter as they jumped out to a 26-20 lead. The Gryphons extended their lead in the second frame, outscoring the Hawks 28-21 to jump out to a 54-41 lead going into the second half. With the score 76-63 heading into the final quarter, the Golden Hawks finally found their offensive touch, with Allin leading the attack. The Hawks outscored Guelph 25-18 in the final quarter, but their comeback fell just short.

Guelph's attack was led by McCarthy and Angus who combined for over half of the Gryphons points. Angus had 
four steals in addition to his 26 points, while McCarthy had six assists and rebounds to go along with his 27 points.

The Gryphons will look to continue their momentum on Wednesday when they travel to St. Catharine's to play the Brock Badgers at 8:00 p.m.
