MHKY | Voyageurs Upset #5 Ridgebacks
On Tuesday afternoon, in front of hundreds of screaming elementary school students, the Voyageurs handed the UOIT Ridgebacks their first loss of the season in a thrilling 4-1 victory.
The game got off to a slow start as neither team could fabricate a goal in the first period. At the end of the first, the shots were tied at 10 a piece.  Just under five minutes into the second, Cray Roberge was able to draw first blood for the Voyageurs after a great effort from Richard Therrien to turn the puck over and make the pass to Roberge in the slot, where he buried it top corner. Five minutes later, the Vees would add to their lead when Brent Pedersen forced a turnover that resulted in him and Nick Esposto with a 2-on-1 opportunity. Pedersen fed Esposto who was able to roof the puck over the glove of Tyson Teichmann. After Esposto's goal, the Vees would head into the dressing room for the second intermission up two against the top team in the OUA.
The Voyageurs would eventually surrender a goal when Jack Patterson was sent in alone on Charlie Millen and beat him on the low blocker side.  That would be as close as the Ridgebacks would get, however, as Darcy Haines restored the two goal lead after he made a great power move out front and roofed the puck over Teichmann.  Brad MacDonald sealed the deal for the Voyageurs after dangling the Ridgeback defender and burying the puck in the empty net.
With the victory, the Voyageurs now have two wins on the season and look to make it three as they head to Nipissing tomorrow. Come support the Voyageurs at home on Friday when they play Nipissing on the back end of the home-and-home.  Puck drop is scheduled for 7:35pm at Countryside Arena.
