Panthers in OT 3-2 over Huskies

(Halifax, NS) The UPEI Panthers defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 3-2 in overtime in AUS men's hockey action Friday night at the Halifax Forum. 

The Huskies opened the scoring with little time to spare as Matt Tipoff (Toronto, ON) tallied from in close on the powerplay at 19:47 to make it 1-0 after the first period. In the second, Saint Mary's struck again when Calder Brooks (Emerald Place, SK) scored from in close on the powerplay as well at 12:17 to extend the lead to 2-0. UPEI got one back when Brent Andrews (Hunter River, PE) potted a marker from the slot on the powerplay at 13:20 to narrow the lead to 2-1 after two periods. In the third, UPEI wasted no time tying the game when Chad Labelle (Calgary, AB) scored from in the slot on the powerplay as well, continuing the effectiveness of powerplays in the game, at 00:19 to make the score 2-2 after regulation. In overtime, Andrews got the OT winner and his second of the game from the circle on a 2 on 1 at 9:36 to cap an exciting and crazy game.

The Huskies outshot the Panthers 50-31. Subway player of the game Mavric Parks (Eganville, ON) made 48 saves to get the win in net for the Panthers. Cole Cheveldave (Calgary, AB) stopped 28 shots in net for the Huskies.

Both teams are right back to action tomorrow night. The Panthers visit the Acadia Axemen at 7:00 pm and the Huskies host the UNB Varsity Reds at 7.
