WSOC | Voyageurs Corral Gee-Gees, Tie 1-1

The Voyageurs women's soccer team hosted the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday afternoon as they were looking to extend their winning streak to six but had to settle for a 1-1 tie.

The Gee-Gees, a team the Voyageurs have historically had difficulty with, game out of the gate quick, controlling possession for most of the first half.  The Voyageurs, to their credit, were confident in their back line and approached the game with a more defensive mindset.  Despite controlling the play, the Gee-Gees lacked any true quality chances and those that they did have were met by stand-out goalkeeper, Caitlin McNamara.

The second began much the way of the first until the 56th minute.  A ball was played into the area and headed around the 18-yard box until it fell to the foot of the Gee-Gees midfielder, Katerine Delev, just outside the box.  She fired a shot low into the far corner, just outside the reach of McNamara for the 1-0 lead.

That goal seemed to spark the Voyageurs as they began to push play more searching for the equalizer.  The answer would come in the 77th minute when Allison Pilon had another superb throw into the 6-yard box and Catherine Rocca was there flick it on with her head, into the far top corner of the net, to knot things up at 1.  A few more chances each way would go unanswered as the final whistle blew on the 1-1 tie.

The Voyageurs will now look to continue their unbeaten run to 7 games when they host the Carleton Ravens at the LU Soccer Field.  Kick-off is scheduled for 12pm.
