Sea-Hawks drop Home opener to UNB

The defending AUS Champion UNB Varsity Reds dropped the Sea~Hawks in three straight sets to keep the Sea~Hawks winless on the 2016-17 season.

The Sea~Hawks swooped to an early 12-10 lead in the first set when the defending AUS Champs went on a 5-1 run capitalizing on untimely errors by the Sea~Hawks. The teams traded points back and forth as the set remained tied at 21 when UNB fifth year Elvind Anderson delivered three of his five kills in the set to close out the Sea~Hawks out 25-23.

In the second set the Varsity Reds gained control on a 6-0 run to push ahead 22-16. UNB was once again led by their big hitter Elvind Anderson who hammered home another 6 kills including the final point off a tremendous set from Samuel Alves.

The Sea~Hawks dropped the final set 25-23 despite jumping out to a 5-1 lead. Memorial extended their lead to 20-16 following Jordan Knee's fourth kill of the set. UNB bounced back and took advantage of a Jordan Murray service error to go on a 4-0 run and pull into a tie only to slide behind 22-21 before taking the next two points. The Sea~Hawks continued to battle tying the set at 23 but failed to gain momentum as fifth year Liam Power gave UNB the lead with an untimely service error. UNB secured the win on a Sea~Hawks attacking error, sending the home town crowd home empty handed.

The Sea~Hawks were led by Liam Power with 16 kills, a single ace and 7 digs.
