Beals’ four tries propel StFX in rugby win over SMU

HALIFAX, NS - June Beals had four first-half tries as the StFX X-Women defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 89-7 Wednesday night in AUS women's rugby action from Huskies Stadium.

Beals (North Preston, NS) scored her first try on her first touch of the match with a 20-yard scamper, giving StFX the early 5-0 lead.

Kathleen Haggarty (Orleans, ON) put the X-Women up 10-0 with her try while Sophie Parker (Windsor, ON) added two tries in the match.

Sara Hoering (Whitby, ON) and Danielle Franada (Grand Prairie, AB) each had a try apiece, while Franada added five converts, giving her 103 points on the year (5 tries, 39 converts).

StFX led 57-0 at half.

Second-half tries for the X-Women included Maggie MacDonald (Ottawa, ON) with two and adding solo tries were Mackenzie Bell (New Glasgow, NS) Claudia Fulton (Aylesford, NS), Tasha McKenzie (Indian Brook, NS) and Kalece O'Regean (Charlottetown, PE).

Brianna Willis (Dartmouth, NS) scored SMU's try, set-up by Elish Redshaw's (Point Edward, NS) long run and who also made the convert kick.

For her efforts, Parker was named 'Subway Player of the Game'.

With the 89-7 win, StFX improves to 5-0 and travels to Ottawa and Montreal on Thanksgiving weekend for exhibition matches against Ottawa and Concordia.

SMU will face the 1-3 UPEI Panthers Thursday, October 12th at 7 pm at Huskies Stadium.
