Huskies drop two to Memorial

Memorial 97 Saint Mary's 61

In the opening game of the AUS season, the Memorial Sea~Hawks beat the Saint Mary's Huskies by a score of 97-61, to kick off the regular season. The Sea~Hawks had a strong showing in the preseason and that trend continued in the first game of the regular season. Memorial got contributions up and down the line-up, with four players scoring in double figures. Memorial got out to a quick start to open the game, led by 5th year post Caleb Gould, who scored 6 points in the opening frame. 4th year post Vasilije Curcic also chipped in with 4 points, which included a transition alley-oop, assisted by Daniel Gordon, that sent the crowd into a frenzy.

Memorial continued to control the pace in the 2nd quarter, as they outscored the Huskies 30- 14.

Vasilije Curcic led all scorers in the 2nd quarter, with an efficient 13 points (4-6 shooting, including 2- 2 from 3 point range). Daniel Gordon chipped in with two 3-pointers of his own. The Huskies did their best to try and keep the game within reach. Brian Rouse led the Huskies in the 2nd quarter with 6 points and 5 rebounds. The Sea~Hakws lead at the break 48-24.

The Sea~Hawks stayed hot to start the 2nd half, spreading the scoring between 5th year players Caleb Gould (8 points), Noel Moffatt (7 Points) and 4th year Vasilije Curcic (7 points). The Huskies were led in the 3rd quarter by Marquis Clayton with 7 points and Theon Reefer who chipped in with 5 points.

The Sea~Hawks were able to close out the game in the 4th quarter and the final score was Memorial 97, Saint Mary's 61.

The leading scorer's for Memorial were Vasilije Curcic with 24 points and 5 rebounds. Noel Moffatt and Caleb Gould each registered double doubles in the game. Moffatt finished with 18 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Gould had 18 points and 13 rebounds.

The Huskies leading scorer's were Kemar Alleyne with 12 points, Marquis Clayton with 10 points and 6 rebounds, and Brian Rouse with 10 points and 9 rebounds.

Memorial 99 Saint Mary's 86

The Memorial Sea-Hawks followed up an impressive win in the Saturday regular season opener against the Saint Mary's Huskies with a 99-86 victory on Sunday. Although it turned out to be a much closer contest, Memorial led for the majority of the game and pulled away from the Huskies in the final minutes of the contest.

The Sea-Hawks were on the board first in the opening quarter and almost four minutes into play were up 8-2 over the visiting Huskies. The Huskies responded well behind strong first quarter performances from Osman Barrie (5 points) and Brian Rouse (4 points). The first quarter ended with Memorial up 24-22.

Osman continued to have the hot-hand for the Huskies, as he poured in 10 points in the second quarter. For Memorial, it was 4th year post Vasilije Curcic that lead the charge as he put up 10 points of his own in the second quarter. The teams played to a 24-24 draw in the 2nd, which gave Memorial a 48-46 lead heading into the break.

In the second half it was Memorial that controlled the tempo and received scoring from multiple players in the line-up. After the third quarter the Sea~Hawks pushed the 2 point halftime lead to an 8 point advantage.

From there the Sea~Hawks were able to close out the game against a very scrappy SMU team. The final score was Memorial 99 and Saint Mary's 86. Leading the way for the Sea~Hawks were: Vasilije Curcic with 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists. Davion Parnsalu with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Daniel Gordon with 16 points and 5 rebounds Caleb Gould with 13 points and 3 rebounds.

The Huskies key contributors were: Theon Reefer with 19 points and 4 rebounds. Osman Barrie with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Brian Rouse with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals.

The Sea~Hawks visit the Dalhousie Tigers for a two game set on November 13th and 14th in Halifax.
