KINGSTON, Ont. – After earning a valuable point against the Queen's Gaels on Saturday, the UOIT men's soccer team left Kingston on Sunday with another three points after defeating the RMC Paladins.
UOIT's opening goal came in the 20
th minute from
Mateo Marques (Burlington, Ont.), his first Ontario University Athletics (OUA) goal.
Just three minutes later
Fabio Campoli (Frosinone, Italy) scored his team-leading four goal of the season on a penalty kick.
The pressure was maintained by the Ridgebacks, who scored seven minutes later in the 30
th minute to give UOIT a 3-0 lead heading into halftime. Their third tally of the day came from
Erik Petrovic (Sombor, Serbia), who continues to sit tied with Campoli for UOIT's all-time scoring leader.
Also scoring his first OUA goal,
Bryan Uyiosa (Toronto, Ont.) capped off the Ridgebacks day in the 85
th minute.
Nicholas Miller (Oshawa, Ont.) and
Vithuran Karvannathasan (Brampton, Ont.) split time in goal for the clean sheet.
The victory has UOIT in third place in the OUA East Division, trailing Carleton and Toronto, who have 23 and 21 points respectively. With 13 points, the Ridgebacks are closely trailed by Laurentian, Queen's and Nipissing who have 12, 11 and 10 points.
Next weekend the Ridgebacks lone match is on Saturday against the Trent Excalibur in Peterborough. Kick off is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
