Huskies win 7-2 over UdeM

MONCTON – Saint Mary's University Huskies (10-3-1=21pts, 3rd position) scored three goals in a four-minute span in the first and added four in the same time space in the third, to register a 7-2 win over Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (1-11-2=4pts, 7th position), Saturday evening at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena in an Atlantic University Sport hockey game before 325 spectators.

Penalties were costly for the Aigles Bleus as the visitors scored three power play goals. Anthony Repaci led the offensive with two goals for the Huskies. The other goals came from the sticks of Alexander Peters, Steven Shipley, Stephen Johnson, Noah Zilbert and Jake Coupler. Taylor Burke and Subway player of the game, Hunter Garlent, added three assists each. Marc-Anthony Therrien (Samuel Roussy, Jean-François Plante), in the third period and Plante (Therrien, Carl Marois), in the first, were the Blue and Gold marksmen. There was no second period scoring as the hockey was fast and exciting for both teams. Cole Cheveldave faced 24 shots for the win in nets. Brandon Thibeau (5 minutes, 3 goals, 5 shots) and Alexi Thibaudeau (54 minutes, 4 goals, 26 shots) were in front of the Aigles Bleus cage. Moncton was 0 for 2 on the power play and Saint Mary's, 3 for 4.

''We had a bad start of the game, but we came back, and we had a very good second period,'' stated Moncton coach Judes Valle. ''Their three goals on five shots in the first and four on 6 shots in the third, hurt us. We are lacking consistency in our play. The players worked hard tonight, but in our zone, it was complicated and demoralizing. Our goaltenders need to get their confidence back. The group did work.''

Jean-François Plante participated in both of his team's goals. ''This is difficult on our confidence and it happens too often,'' Plante said. ''We worked hard, but we need to find solutions. We cannot expect to win a game when we allow 6-7 goals. We need to sit together and find a group solution."

The Huskies are back at home at the Halifax Forum Wednesday at 7 when they host StFX.  Moncton will visit University of Prince Edward Island Panthers, Wednesday evening in Charlottetown.
