Box Score Five different Warriors found the net as the women's hockey team used a complete team effort to sink the Windsor Lancers by a score of 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the icefields. Â
Rebecca Bouwhuis (Orillia) turned aside 20 shots in the win while Ingrid Sandven was busier in the Lancer net allowing five goals on 39 shots.Â
The opening frame saw the two combatants exchange goals within one minute of each other as Shawna Lesperance put Windsor up 1-0 at 11:49 before
Stephanie Digness (Aldergrove) fired home a point shot 52 seconds later for her first of the season. Â
Kaitlyn McDonell (Kincardine) and
Marissa Redmond (Ajax) were given the assists on Waterloo's opening goal.
The game would open up in the second period as
Courtney Simpson (Komoka) put Waterloo up 2-1 with her first career CIS goal. Â Simpson put home a nice backhand after a nifty feed by
Tegan Odland (Enchant). Â
Michelle Tanel (Toronto) collected the second assist on the goal. Â Much like the Warriors answering Windsor's opening goal, the visitors repaid the favour, taking only two minutes to even the game at two's. Â Shailyn Waites put away the equalizer on a Windsor power play. The Warriors would however regain the lead only 23 seconds later with another first career goal, this time
Alison Hanson (Toronto) tipping home a Tanel point shot as the Warriors went into the second intermission up 3-2.
The flood gates would open in the third as
Siobhan Hewitt-Kenda (North Vancouver) potted her second of the season at 2:17 of the final frame while Paula LaGama tallied her third of the young season at 16:07 to give Waterloo the 5-2 victory.
With the win, Waterloo improves to 2-1-1 on the season and sit in a tie for third with seven points while Windsor remains winless at 0-3-0.
The Warriors will enjoy the rest of the weekend off before getting back to action weekend at the CIF against Guelph (Saturday) and York (Sunday).
