(FREDERICTON, N.B.) - UNB's men's soccer team remains undefeated after besting Acadia 4-0 in action on BMO Field Sunday.
The first goal came around the 12-minute mark from UNB's Oliver Jones (London, England). It was the first goal of the season for Jones.
UNB would have to wait until the second half to score again. Shea Nordheim found the net around the 48th minute. Nordheim (Winnipeg, Man.) has scored two goals in just four games this season.
For head coach Miles Pinsent, a 4-0 regular season record is a great result, especially considering the tough opposition the Varsity Reds faced this weekend with matches against Acadia and Cape Breton.
Acadia also played a tough game Saturday, beating Moncton 2-1. According to Pinsent, the stress of playing two high-level matches in just 24 hours could be seen in both teams today.
"Both teams were a little bit fatigued," he said. "I think the will was there, the intent was there, but it wasn't as tidy as it could have been."
Getting the shutout for the Varsity Reds was Brandon Eagle. Subway player of the game went to UNB's Marcus Lees.
The Varsity Reds have their next game when they host UPEI at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19.
Acadia will host StFX at the same time.
