For the first time in program history, the Warriors women's hockey team will have home ice advantage in the opening round of playoffs after beating UOIT 2-1 in a shootout on Sunday afternoon.  

Waterloo only needed a single point to lock up the fourth spot in the OUA standings but three beautiful goals by the Warriors in the shootout gave them an insurance point.  For the second straight year, Waterloo will face Western in the opening round.  Last year the Warriors went in as the sixth seed against the third seeded Mustangs.

Waterloo was just 31 seconds away from a 1-0 victory in regulation but the Ridgebacks netted the tying goal to send the game to overtime.  After nothing was solved in both overtime periods, Carolyn Burke (Mississauga) scored a beauty goal in the shootout to give her squad the 2-1 win.  Also scoring nifty goals in the shootout was Marissa Redmond (Ajax) and Samantha Burbridge (Brantford).

Alyssa Gee (Ajax) scored the lone goal in regulation, her first of the season.  Cynthia Cavanagh (Scarborough) and Rebecca Rutherford (Ajax) picked up the helpers on the goals.

In her first start since returning from a silver medal with team Canada at the FISU Games, Stephanie Sluys (Clinton) stood tall in net allowing just one goal past her on 25 shots.  At the other end Tori Campbell was also feeling it, making 30 saves in the loss.
