Gaels drop 73-56 decision to Guelph

BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (November 12, 2011) – The Queen's Gaels (0-2) dropped a 73-56 decision to the Guelph Gryphons (2-0) on Saturday night in Kingston. The Gaels fell behind in the first half and despite outscoring Guelph by three points in the final two quarters, were unable to come back.

The Gryphons got off to a quick start in the first half shooting 48.5% from the field. Guelph outscored the Gaels by 12 points in the first quarter and eight in the second as they took a 20 point lead heading into the second half.

The Gaels showed grit and determination as they dug in and limited Guelph to only 28 second half points. The Gaels put together 31 points of their own and outscored the Gryphons by a three point margin.

Nikola Misljencevic of Ottawa led all Gaels shooters with 10 points on the day to go along with four rebounds and three assists while Daniel McCarthy of Guelph, Ont. paced the Gryphons with 24 points.

Mackenzie Simpson of Ottawa chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds to go along with four steals in the loss.

The Gaels will travel to Waterloo to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday November 18 with tip off set for 8pm.
