(ST. JOHN'S, NFLD.) - The Memorial Sea-Hawks edged out the visiting UPEI Panthers 83-80 in AUS men's basketball at the Field House on Sunday afternoon.

Memorial took the early lead and were up by seven after the first quarter. In the second the Panthers put on the pressure and outscored the home team by one, but going into the half the Sea-Hawks still led 45-39.

The Panthers closed the gap in the third and ended the quarter an even 65-65. Daniel Foo (Corner Brook, Nfld.) was the difference in the fourth for the Sea-Hawks, contributing 12 points himself, including two three-pointers in the last three minutes.

Caleb Gould (Aurora, Ont.) finished off the Panthers by sinking both free-throws after a UPEI foul with four seconds left in the game.

Foo led Memorial with a team-high 27 points off the bench. Gould added 18 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

Tyler Scott (Halifax, N.S) had 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Panthers. Ellis French (Wolfville, N.S.) added 23 points in the loss.

The AUS Subway player of the game title went to Foo for the winners.

Memorial's head coach, Peter Benoite was thrilled with the game's outcome.

"Really positive win for us and much needed going into the break," he said. "We've had a tough first half dealing with injuries and not playing to our potential.  The win will help keep us on track, and should give us confidence going into the second half healthy, as we play all the same teams again to start off."

UPEI are now 4-2 on the season while the Sea-Hawks improve to 1-5.

The Sea-Hawks are on a break now until they host the Cape Breton Capers Jan. 10 and 11.

The Panthers have one more game to play before they break for the holidays. They will visit StFX on Nov. 28.
