BLUES FALL SHORT IN FOURTH QUARTER

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team dropped a 77-71 decision to the No. 4 nationally ranked Brock Badgers on Friday, February 5 at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.

Fourth-year forward Devin Johnson led the Blues with 20 points and seven rebounds, while first-year forward Daniel Johansson had a season-high 18 points and five boards on the night.

Sophomore guard Sage Usher posted seven points, seven assists and five rebounds, with Miroslav Jaksic also adding seven points and six boards in the loss.

Johnson opened the game with three straight baskets to give Toronto an early 7-0 lead. The two teams traded baskets from there and the Blues led 19-14 after the first.

The Badgers brought the game within two (23-25) midway through the second quarter but an Usher three restored U of T's lead. Brock didn't let up though and two three pointers from Zachary Angelini tied the game at 35-35 at halftime.

The game remained tight but a Johneil Simpson three gave Brock a 54-51 lead late in the third quarter. The home team rallied and with a Manny Sahota dunk and Wilson Torres steal for the easy basket,

Toronto took a 57-56 advantage into the final frame.

All tied up at 63-63, the Badgers took over with a three and a couple of free throws from Simpson putting the visitor's up for good.

Simpson led all players with 22 points, while Dani Elgadi notched a double-double of 13 poitns and 11 boards in the win.

The Varsity Blues are back in action tomorrow night as they host the Laurier Golden Hawks in conjunction with the Bell NBA All-Star Challenge, presented by AIRMILES at Goldring Centre. Tip off is set for 8 p.m.
