MHKY | Voyageurs Bounce Back Against Paladins

MHKY | Voyageurs Bounce Back Against Paladins

The Laurentian Voyageurs Men's hockey team played against the Royal Military College on a Saturday night game to finalize their two game trip on this November weekend.

The Voyageurs had lost their first game in the weekend series to the Queen's Gaels so they were looking for a win that would put them back onto the previous win streak and as well keep them in the hold for the last OUA playoff spot.

The Royal Military College would look to be a lesser opponent judging by the record of 3-10 and the current four game losing streak but they are not a team to doubt as they are capable of winning against teams ranked much higher.

RMC would be the first to score in this very intense match up as Alex MacDonald would beat Michael Giugovaz. Giugovaz would let only two goals in for the night and would have thirty-one saves.

The second period would be the opposite of the first as the Voyageurs would be the only ones to score in the second period as Richard Therrien would add another goal to his current sixteen points in twelve games. Russel Nowry and Kaden Ruest would pick up the assists on Therrien's goal.

The third period held most of the scoring action with four goals, three going to Laurentian and one going to RMC. Zach Wilkie would be the first to open the scoring for the Voyageurs in the third period as the offensive defenceman took just one minute to score. This would be Wilkie's second goal of the OUA season and the go-ahead goal for the Voyageurs putting them up 2-1.

RMC would answer back just six minutes later as Dylan Giberson would be awarded the final goal from the RMC offence and would consequently tie the game.

The Voyageurs' Captain, Nicolas Dionne, would be the one to break the tie and score once again. Dionne would score his eleventh goal and seventeenth point in just twelve games against RMC on the power play with the help of Jacob Smith and Cole Peck

Dionne's goal would put the Vees into winning position as they would be up by 3-2 but the Voyageurs offence decided to add another go ahead goal as Xaiver Couture would score an empty net goal by taking advantage of RMC's last ditch effort in hopes to tie the game. Gavin Apperson and Jayme Forslund would be the Vees to pick up the assist on the empty goal.

The Voyageurs would finish the weekend 1-1 and improve their record to 5-7 and prepare for the weekend of November 23rd and 24th as they host two very tough opponents, McGill and Concordia, at Countryside Arena with puck-drop scheduled for 7:35pm each night.
